This is one of my favourite herbal books; great for an experienced practitioner, and newcomer alike it has a wealth of information concisely arranged and easy to use. Remember though to take advice from a Registered Naturopath (NZSN) or Herbalist for treatment and use of herbs except for minor complaints. David Hoffman does have highlighted where caution is advised with particular herbs. I love the use of colour pictures which are abundant throughout the book; all herbs have colour photographs. There are many other illustrations to help make the use an application of herbs easy to understand. David Hoffman is a highly respected herbalist and this book has been used for many years in different prints by Naturopaths and Herbalists alike; it would be of particular interest to students of any Natural therapies. The only criticism is that it does not include references, but considering use of herbals has for the most part been a handing down of information from one generation of herbalists to another, and that current research does not reflect at the moment the broad use and application of herbs this is understandable.

This book is full of superb phographs of herbs throught the world, the details of the photographs and the text make this an excellent book for identification of herbs. This book is for professional users, such as Naturopaths and Medical Herbalists, and anyone who wants to grow medicinal herbs. The book focuses on the herbs rather than complaints. The active ingredients of the medicinal plants are decribed in detail, not only in the description of each plant, but also in a separate chapter; complete with diagrams and descriptions of the chemical strutures of the  active ingredients. An impressive and beautiful book.

Encyclopaedia of Natural Medicine -Michael Murray ND and Joseph Pizzorno ND

This is a first class well referenced book with a comprehensive list of specific health problems and the natural approaches which have been shown to be effective ways of treating the complaints through research. If you want a book with scientific evidence for the use of Natural approaches to healing this will meet that need. For many years Naturopaths and other complementary therapists  have used the first and second editions of the Encyclopaedia of Natural Medicine as a reliable source of information.
